Peter J. Shulman, M.D., FAAP, M.B.A.

Chief Executive Officer

A graduate of the Chicago Medical School, Peter J. Shulman M.D., completed his Pediatric Internship and Residency at Long Island Jewish Hillside Medical Center in New York. Joining Pediatric Associates in 1975, he was given the responsibility of developing the group’s first satellite location in Plantation, Florida. The success he achieved in Plantation served as the group’s model for expansion throughout the South Florida market. Today, the group operates twenty eight locations in South Florida and the Tampa/St. Petersburg area.

Dr. Shulman served as the Chief of the Pediatric Department at Plantation General Hospital from 1984 through 1989.  His leadership and communication skills were recognized early on and he earned an appointment to Pediatric Associates’ Executive Committee; the group’s first governing body.  In 1998, Dr. Shulman completed an MBA degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Miami. That same year, he was named the Chief Medical Officer for Pediatric Associates, a role in which he served until 2010, when he was elected by the Board to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, Pediatric Associates has continued to thrive and today is recognized as one of the premier pediatric practices in the United States.

Dr. Shulman’s many years as a practicing pediatrician, his management style, and his vision for Pediatric Associates, makes him ideally suited to navigate the organization through the complex changes of today’s healthcare environment.

In 2001, Dr. Slonaker joined Pediatric Associates as a general pediatrician in their Plantation, FL office. As Florida Medicaid Reform moved into Broward County in 2006, Pediatric Associates launched Pediatric Associates PSN, a pediatric-only provider service network.  Dr. Slonaker served as the Medical Director and Compliance Officer for the health plan until it was merged into a larger area health plan in 2009.

In September 2009, Dr. Slonaker was appointed to the Florida Governor’s Medical Home Task Force, which worked towards analyzing the format and function of existing state-based medical home programs and provided recommendations to the Florida Legislature regarding the creation of a medical home in Florida.

Dr. Slonaker has been the Chief Medical Officer and Compliance Officer at Pediatric Associates since 2010.  He continues his work towards clinical excellence in pediatrics, quality care for the underinsured, and the realization of an accredited medical home both within his own practice and at the state level.
